The "black birds" are a series inspired by the timeless, intriguing, and curious looks of members of the corvid family. Some appear to be ravens, some grackles, crows, starlings, or a mixture of features of these compelling birds. All these species share an intelligence, curiosity, and affinity for their human observers.

The stylized looks and large eyes of these birds date all the way back to my high school sketchbooks. These strange little friends have always been with me, and have become a symbol in my work and one of my most popular series.
